Ketchikan

General.    This is the US Customs point of entrance or departure for most vessels sailing the inside passage. The Harbour Master is available on VHF channel 73. Customs is available by phone 24 hr/day on 907-225-2254. This is a busy place in the summer and most things are available. This is a wet place. It rains, on average, 236 days per year with October being the wettest month.

Reported.    May 2004 by Fine Tolerance

Charts.    NOAA 17430.

Approach.    There are no hidden dangers here. There is a mean 4 meter tide but currents are generally mild. It can be a very busy port with cruise ships, fishing boats and float planes all competing for the same piece of water.

Bar Harbour is where the Harbour Masters Office is situated. The Post Office, ferry terminal, a supermarket and
some restaurants are all nearby. It is the biggest marina in Ketchikan.

This is the smallest of the three marinas and is a nice peaceful dock to lie at. The centre of town is close by.

The centre of town is just over the bridge and Ketchikan's
main tourist attraction, Creek Street, runs into the head
of this basin.

Points of Interest.   Creek Street is a preserved piece of Ketchikan's early history. There are good fresh supplies available.

Be prepared for tourists!
